Mack Garrett is a rather stern man, former L.A. County Swat, now working on his grandfather’s dude ranch with his two best friends. He firmly believes in one and done. No relationship for him and he especially dislikes actors. He has his reasons. When a bridal party visiting the dude ranch includes the flamboyant, obviously gay and much too cute flirty brother of the bride Mack realizes that he is in big trouble.
I loved this story, the theme of the city mouse and the country mouse, or even more apropos, this reminds me of the Rescuers where the two very different characters, Miss Bianca and Bernard, have an adventure together and find along the way that even though they are different, they just may work perfectly together.
Clearly, this is not a children’s book as Mack, and the brother-of-the bride Wes, act on their mutual attraction every chance they get. Unfortunately, the bridal party is only visiting the dude ranch for a week and, oh yes, Wes is an actor and doesn’t trust cowboys.
There are subtle hints about the secondary characters that serve to peak the reader’s interest in anticipation for the stories to come in this series. Although there were times when I could guess what was going to happen, that adds to the mood for me as I want to warn the characters and tell them…”be careful”. It is like watching a movie when the music changes to something more dramatic and gets louder.
This story has passion, mystery, suspense and some unanticipated surprises making for an exciting yet warm and fuzzy read.
